A sports car Toyota developed jointly with SUBARU (formerly Fuji Heavy Industries), and a sister car to the Subaru BRZ. It was designed around being small, light, low in its center of gravity and low in inertia, without relying on forced induction or special high-grip tires, and was named 86 after the AE86 Corolla Levin and Sprinter Trueno. It marked the return of a Toyota-brand sports car after a gap of five years since the MR-S went out of sale, and the second-generation model, the GR86, has since gone on sale.
