Mazda AZ-1 generations and chassis codes

Overview

A two-seat kei sports car launched by Autozam, a sales channel born from the five-channel system Mazda pursued. Priced at 1.498 million yen, it drew great attention with a midship (MR) layout and gull-wing doors, a first for a kei car. It was one of the three cars called the ABC trio, along with the Honda Beat and the Suzuki Cappuccino. Its gull-wing doors are regarded as the first and, so far, the last on a kei car. Production remained small, and the Beat and the Cappuccino also ended production around the same time.
