Overview

The name means heavenly, celestial or divine in Spanish. It appeared as Japan's first specialty car, with looks and a name independent of a sedan. It adopted the Full Choice system, letting buyers choose the engine and interior to suit their taste, which became a big talking point. The Liftback, a three-door 2+2 coupe with a fastback silhouette, later joined the lineup. The first generation was built at the Tsutsumi plant and sold by Toyota Corolla dealers. Production ended with the seventh generation.
