It appeared as Toyota's first production sports car and later became affectionately known as the Yota-Hachi. It had a removable targa-top-style roof, so a single car could be enjoyed both as an open car and as a closed coupe. Being light and low in drag, it had excellent fuel economy, and because it needed few fuel stops it showed its true worth in endurance racing.
