Launched as a cab-over passenger and commercial vehicle smaller than the Toyoace. The name derives from the Toyoace, combining the English words high and ace. Its size and high reliability saw it used as an ambulance, and the Toyota Himedic high-standard ambulance was also offered. From the fourth generation on, the wagon grew into a luxury one-box recreational vehicle, while the van was refined as a commercial vehicle. With the fifth generation, the wagon's Super Custom models were merged into the Alphard.
