Story

Developed as a high-performance four-door sedan while sharing its basic components with the Crown Majesta, which came out at the same time. Its biggest feature was the exterior by Italdesign, led by Giugiaro, and the acceleration of the twin-turbo cars won the support of people who liked high-performance sedans.

Lines drawn before the Jaguar prototype

The exterior of the first-generation Aristo was the work of Italdesign, led by Giugiaro. Italdesign tried to bring a judicious European balance to Japan's top-of-the-range sedans, which had been weighed down with too much superfluous decoration. The car is often said to be based on Jaguar's Kensington prototype, but Italdesign explains that its first drawings came earlier. Toyota developed this prototype further and finished it as a refined four-door luxury car.
