Story

It was the first to use the next-generation SUBARU GLOBAL PLATFORM. It made the first pedestrian protection airbag in a Japanese car standard on every model, and won the Japan Car of the Year.

Like the move from the Leone to the Legacy

The new platform was adopted not for efficiency or cost, but to make the Subaru character stand out. Which model would get it first had not been decided, but Abe thought it was the right choice to refine it in the entry-level Impreza, since the know-how could then be used for the Levorg, the Legacy and the Forester. Driving the finished car, people were surprised by how much it had evolved, and inside the company it was said to be "like the move from the Leone to the Legacy."
