Renewing every component of the flagship of a widening Lexus range

Development of the fourth generation began under chief engineer Moritaka Yoshida as Lexus was shifting to a strategy of widening its range and launching new models for markets around the world. The exterior adopted the new design philosophy "L-finesse", and every component that shapes the basic performance was newly developed, including the engine, the 8-speed automatic, the platform and the front and rear multi-link suspension. In Japan, from this generation on, it was sold under the Lexus LS name in place of the Celsior.
