No need for a trunk

The third-generation WRX STI surprised people by changing from a sedan to a five-door hatchback. From the early sketch stage, Mori had decided to go with five doors in order to win in the WRC. This was based on views such as those of works driver Petter Solberg, who said the sedan's trunk was unnecessary and the front and rear overhangs could be zero.
