Story

A larger displacement aimed to fix the mid-range "torque dip" that had been an issue with its predecessor. It gained the "EyeSight" driver assistance system, which the first generation did not have.

The number plate: 86-94

The first generation had been refined over eight years and was already well balanced. Inoue thought that to evolve it into the second generation, the balance itself had to evolve, so he first raised the engine to 2.4 L for more power befitting a sports car, then built a body and chassis to match that power. By coincidence, the old engine's bore and stroke were 86 mm × 86 mm, while the new one is 86 mm × 94 mm. He got a laugh by recommending "86-94" for your number plate.
