Building the TYPE R at the same time

In an era when recreational vehicles dominated, Otobe wanted to build a coupé worthy of the new century, with a car's essential functions of going, turning and stopping, and a beautiful form. The TYPE R, added two years after the base car in the previous generation, was deliberately developed at the same time this time. It was hard work, but he thought it would give the base iS the same high body rigidity and express the intent of the development clearly in the product.
